Friends' afternoon in 2023

Friends' afternoon

During this Friends' Afternoon on 25 May, historian Armand Heijnen - author of the book 'Bloeiende wetenschap' on 375 years of the Botanic Gardens Utrecht - will tell us more about the rich history of botany at our university. Afterwards, we will split into groups and colleagues Nick Meijdam, Connor Smith and some of our regular tour guides will show us around different garden sections.

Location: Botanic Gardens - start in de 'Serre' (Tropical greenhouses)

13:45         Lecture by Armand Heijnen

This afternoon is exclusively for our Friends. They have received an invitation for this afternoon by e-mail. Registration in advance is necessary: this can be done by sending an e-mail to vrienden.botanischetuinen@uu.nl. You will then receive a confirmation (also entrance ticket) for this afternoon.

Botanical watercolour painting for Friends

Repeated due to success: this botanical watercolour painting workshop led by botanical artist Marloes Vreeburg. During this workshop, you will work on your own with up to 9 other students. You will go through the whole process: from choosing your plant to sketching and watercolouring. And, of course, you will be given tips and tools. Make a note of the date in your diary. Fort Botanische Tuinen

Guided tour of Fort Hoofddijk

The Botanic Gardens are located on and around Fort Hoofddijk: one of the works of the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie and Unesco World Heritage Site. This Sunday, there will be a (short) tour of the Fort exclusively for our Friends. Make a note of the date in your diary. More information and link to register will follow.
